Witch Fight are a roaring two piece Vintage Stoner Punk act, slaying eardrums all the way from Sydney, Australia. Their sound is absolutely crushing – drums are big, cymbals are huge & teamed ever so naturally with 2 full bass rigs and their FUZZZ balls being driven by a Univox Superfuzz.
"Witch Fight are a two piece powerhouse! Belting out high octane stoner punk rocking songs, sounding like the love child of Nick Oliveri & Geezer Bulter!" - Grindhead Records
The band is heavily influenced by Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Truckfighters, and Electric Wizard and certainly love their fair share of Punk bands thrown into the mix. The band has worked hard to provide their fans with the best possible vintage sounds coming from a modern day act and it is really starting to show of late. Since debuting their live show in early 2012, Witch Fight have been gigging as often as they can, whilst becoming possibly the loudest, most energetic band around. Their LIVE show is a MUST SEE and the sheer volume and aggression coming from the stage is a spectacle in itself, let alone their heavy riffs with that ever love-able hook within.
"I was immediately blown away by the biblically huge sound pummelling my senses which constantly caused the other band's shirts to fall off the walls behind the merch desk." – Joshua Towney, Symbiotic Gig Reviews
Between writing tunes and rehearsing their set, the Witch Fight boys can be found slapping the flipper buttons on any of the various Pinball machines across Sydney. Pinball and the community it breeds is a huge part of who they are.
Having released their BIG WHEEL DEMOS in June of 2012, the band managed to play over 35 shows around it's release and began revving it up a notch preparing for a full length release (which was originally due for 2013). Staying true to the old school approach of no cuts or fixes... just play it right the first time - the band do their best to capture the skill and raw energy of their live show.
Glenno Smith, who is responsible for a huge amount of art for punk and stoner acts across the globe, has provided some really amazing art to get the Witch Fight world of merch rolling forward with some genuine promotion. The classic "Billy-Wings" will forever be known as the Witch Fight logo to the band and beyond.
2013 kicked off with a smashing run of shows (including Devil's Kitchen with Nunchukka Superfly & King Parrot which was an absolute honour). Witch Fight finally headed outside of the regular Sydney string of venues and hit Newcastle with new made friends - The Morrisons - from Melbourne for their 7inch launch shows. A killer FBI Radio interview with Dave Drayton, saw the first of what would be to come of the new release, which also landed them a fantastic slot at FBI Social in the cross.
The band hit the studio to begin tracking their debut album “Astonishing Tales of... Witch Fight” in April 2013. It was an interesting experience, with six broken snare skins in the first day of nine tracks and huge pressure from time constraints, things weren't looking too crash hot to begin with and they left the studio with an incomplete recording, but knew they would one day return to put the final touches on it for an eventual release.
Soon after the session, a major spanner was dropped into the Witch Fight world and probably one of the saddest moments in the bands history thus far. The very loveable Tom 'Wog' Nik unfortunately decided to lay down his axe for a while and high tail it to QLD for a new career. Being a major player in the band, the musical bond could never be truly broken and one day if the time is right, he may return once more. The band took some much needed to off to re-assess and plan a new strategy for Witch Fight - Mark II.
After around six months of thinking what to do, Boskie decided to fire Witch Fight back up just as hot as ever and at the absolute perfect timing, Matty Allen (Los Hombres Del Diablo) suggested he jump on board. Matty has some of the best chops around and came into the 2 piece like a fire cracker! It's been a fantastic move for the band and they began to do what Witch Fight does best again... Get out there as often as possible to make ears bleed. The new line-up shredded countless shows throughout 2013 and 2014, presenting some fresh, blitzing new material.
Throughout 2014, preparations had begun for their debut release “Astonishing Tales of... Witch Fight”. The LP had finally been finished mixing (over a year later) in April 2014, with it being Mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago, USA. Saff's mastering put a little faith back in and really gave it the low end and grit it needed. Also working with acclaimed graphic artist, Corlen Kruger, the boys have ended up with some of the hottest LP art around from local bands. Corlen took on the concept with open arms and really brought the bands ideas and concepts to life, almost jumping off the page! He is a truly amazing artist and the band is so honoured to have him be a part of the Witch Fight world. Corlen's work can even be seen in the latest 2 editions of Mortal Kombat.
More changes in the world of Witch Fight came in the later months of 2014 with the unfortunate news that Matty had made the hard decision to leave the band due to other commitments but of course not without a super send off for his last show shreddin' with the band at the Valve Bar for Slaughterfest VII. It was an absolutely amazing experience playing together for Matty & Boskie, and he has of course now become another massive set of shoes to fill for the next guitarist. It's fairly safe to say that Matty's head will been seen floating around the bar of the occasional show and no doubt you can see him crushing skulls with his main (current) squeeze... Los Hombres Del Diablo.
So after a long and draining kind of year for the band, the end of 2014 and beyond is honestly looking pretty incredible so far. Set for release on Nov 14th, 2014 is the upcoming debut LP... 'Astonishing Tales of... Witch Fight'. It's been an amazingly long journey to get it out and the band are psyched on the release. LTD ED run of 250 copies - LP/CD release. With collector scum packs available including t-shirts, stickers, badges and more. And as surprising as it may be, the band is set for an Australian East Coast album launch tour in January 2015 with the Original lineup! The Wog is back! For limited shows only at this stage but with Witch Fight, you just never know. The boys are extremely excited to announce the shows as soon as possible for Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane and get the release moving like a bat out of hell.
